Each kimono is bought one at a time in Japan; we will not have another. These are authentic Japanese kimono, worn and kept before they came this far. The marks of time — the patina, the light wear — are part of the piece.
Description
Sasa — dwarf bamboo — and flowers, embroidered and tied into the silk.
In Japan bamboo is one of the "three friends of winter", with pine and plum: the three plants that do not die when everything else does. Bamboo bends. That is where its reputation comes from — it is admired not for resisting but for the way it gives without breaking.
The embroidery is koma work, the thread laid on the silk and couched over the top. The reserves are shibori, hand-tied before dyeing — each small raised grain is one knot made and then undone.
The sleeves are longer than on the other two hōmongi in this collection: 56.5 cm rather than 48 to 50. That means a piece meant for a younger woman, and you can see it — the line is less severe.

Shipping
Sent from France, carefully folded and wrapped in Japanese paper. Times and rates are set out in the terms of sale. Returns accepted within fourteen days, except for pieces altered to measure.
Care
Dry clean only, with a specialist in antique textiles. Never press the tied shibori areas. Store folded in paper, away from light.
