Each kimono is bought one at a time in Japan; we will not have another. These are authentic Japanese kimono, worn and kept before they came this far. The marks of time — the patina, the light wear — are part of the piece.
Description
A haori is the short jacket worn over a kimono — and the single easiest piece of Japanese dress to bring into a Western wardrobe. It is, in effect, a silk cardigan.
This one is ivory silk, printed with flowing water and the seven autumn grasses: chrysanthemum, maple, bush clover, bamboo. The motif is called ryūsui — running water — and it carries the old idea that beauty is beautiful because it passes.
Inside, a second silk in pure white, woven with a chrysanthemum damask you only see when the light moves. In Japan the finest cloth is kept on the inside, where only the wearer knows it is there.
The original himo — the braided cord that fastens the front — is included.
Wear it over jeans and a plain shirt. It does the work of a blazer.

Care
Dry clean only. Store away from direct light, folded in paper or cotton — never in a plastic bag, which holds damp and yellows silk.
